Norma I. Halverson, 87, Cando, ND passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at Towner County Living Center in Cando, ND. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at Cando Lutheran Church with Pastor Bonnie Weaver officiating. Visitation will be on Monday, January 18, 2016 from 4 to 7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service at the Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home in Cando. Burial will be in the spring at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Cando. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Casket bearers will be her grandchildren Greg Halverson, Rod Halverson, Corey Weisz, Travis Halverson, Jason Halverson, Tyler Halverson, Cameron Halverson and Preston Halverson. Honorary Bearers will be grandchildren Kari Rinas, Audrey Stockstadt and Kurt Weisz, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Music will be provided by Tom Freund and Roberta Mundahl.

Norma was born February 11, 1928 in Towner County, ND to Melvin and Selma Olson. Norma attended Metcalfe School in rural Towner County, ND. She married Glenn Halverson and they farmed in the Cando/Egeland area for many years. The couple owned Towner County Oil where she did the bookkeeping. She was a hard worker, helping with farming, helping with the potato planting and harvest. She also worked with Illa Mae Brandt doing painting, wallpapering and house cleaning and also worked at the Towner County Living Center in housekeeping and laundry. She crocheted afghans for the grandchildren and her brownies were a big hit with the entire family. She enjoyed horseback riding, gardening, canning and Christmas Eve was always a special time. Norma was a member of Cando Lutheran Church and former member of the Resident Council at the Towner County Living Center. Glenn passed away in 1997 and Norma entered the Towner County Living Center in 2010.

Norma is survived by her children: Don (Lorna) Halverson of Cando, ND; Jan (Mike) Weisz of Cando, ND; Larry (Brenda) Halverson of Cando, ND; and Jeff (Diane) Halverson of Devils Lake, ND and daughter-in-law Judy Halverson of Cando, ND. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren and 4 step-grandchildren. She is survived by her brother Selmer (Darlene) Olson of Nicholasville, KY, sister Joyce (Gerald) Thompson of Hawley, MN, sister-in-law's Darlene Olson of Auburn, NE and Judy Olson of Paris, KY, brother-in-law Jim Peterson of Eagan, MN and several nieces and nephews.

Norma was preceded in death by her husband Glenn; son Stanley; sisters Janice, Donna, Sylvia and Linda; brothers Elmer and Melvin Jr and a great-granddaughter Jayleigh.
