N orma Jean Vielguth Schulze, 98, of Cando, ND, a beloved mother and wife passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2022. Born on May 8, 1924 in Downs, Kans., she is survived by two daughters, Carol (Mark) Hoffman of Munich, ND, and Lynne (Darrell) Goemaat of Palatine, IL, and sister Lois Vielguth Johnson of Colorado Springs, CO. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Ryan (Jen) Hoffman, of Fargo, ND, and Andrea Goemaat, Renae Goemaat, and Carson Goemaat of Palatine, IL.
Jean graduated from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls, MN in 1941. Following graduation, she took teacher training classes and taught in several schools in northern Minnesota. She attended two colleges and in 1953 graduated from Wheaton College with a degree in Education. The same year she moved to Rochester, MN and became a first-grade teacher at Jefferson Elementary Public School. In 1956 she met the love of her life, Charles H. Schulze, the new Christian Education Director at First Baptist Church of Rochester, MN. They were married in August of 1957 and soon moved to St. Paul, MN where Charles pastored a church before their first daughter Carol was born in 1959. Their daughter Lynne was born in 1961. In 1965, the family moved to Owatonna, MN where Charles and Jean both became professors at Pillsbury Baptist Bible College. In 1974, the family moved to Omaha, NE where Charles pastored Grace Baptist Church. The couple retired in 1991 and moved to Sioux Falls, SD and then moved to Cando, ND in 2008. Jean was a life-long learner. She especially loved the fine arts, reading, bird identification and spending time with her grandchildren. A Memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2023 at 2:00 PM at the Salem Bible Church in Munich, ND.
