Phyllis J. Rinas, 94, of Devils Lake, ND, formerly of Egeland, ND passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.
Services will be held on Monday, September 26, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Lakeview Lutheran Church in Egeland, ND with Pastor Rob Buechler officiating. Visitation will be held at the Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home, Cando on Sunday September 25, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a Family Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service on Monday. Interment will take place at the Union Cemetery, Egeland, ND. Casket Bearers will be her grandchildren: Chris Rinas, Kyle Rinas, David Rinas, Destry Holt, Zachary Hedstrom and Clint Anderson. Music will be provided by Dianne Moore and Claudia Nikolaisen.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Eventide Heartland Courts, 620 14th Ave, NE, Devils Lake, 58301 or memorial of choice.
Phyllis was born on March 28, 1922 to Gilbert and Clara (Meyer) Ellefson at Calvin, ND. Phyllis attended the Grey Township School and graduated from Clyde High School. She attended college at Mayville State, earning a two-year standard, and became a teacher. Phyllis stopped teaching to raise a family, but in 1970 she went back to college and earned her bachelor's degree from UND. Phyllis taught in Rolla and in Egeland, where she eventually retired.
She married Arthur Rinas on July 6, 1946 in Egeland, ND. Arthur and Phyllis spent their time in Egeland, ND and went to Arizona for the winters. Arthur passed away on July 30, 2008. Phyllis stayed in Egeland for some time and eventually moved to Cando, ND and then to Devils Lake, ND where she lived until her death. Phyllis liked quilting, sewing, puzzles, painting, scrap-booking and enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Phyllis is survived by her children: Loa (Ron) Roman of Leeds, ND, Mike (Colleen) Rinas of Mandan, ND, Mary Lu (Steve) Height of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL and Brad (Connie) Rinas of Bismarck, ND; brother Richard (Pat) Ellefson of Fargo, ND; sister Dorothy Olson of Mesa, AZ; seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren and daughter-in-law Lorelei Britain of Bismarck, ND. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband Arthur, her son Gilbert, her parents, brothers Clarence, Garnet and Darol, and granddaughter Tammy.
