Raymond L. Freund, 61, of Cando, ND, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 30th, 2023, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.

Visitation will take place from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 14, 2023, followed by Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. at the Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 15, 2023, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cando with Father Mathew Pamplaniyil celebrating the mass. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to T.C. USBC for youth bowlers and the Sacred Heart Cemetery Fund.

Raymond Lynn Freund was born November 22, 1961, to George and Gladys (Elverud) Freund in Cando, ND.  He was raised and educated in Cando, graduating with the class of 1980.

Ray started his agricultural career with his father and brothers on the family farm at a young age.  Following graduation, he began his adult farming career with Johnson Farms of Egeland, ND.  Ray travelled to Montana to work for a Montana Lumber company.  Upon returning to ND, Ray worked for Brink Construction, Noodles by Leonardo, and Tad Schmidt Construction.  Ray was a farmhand for Hilman Benson of Cando, ND at the time of his death.  He loved farming with Hilman and was a dedicated farmhand.  His happy place was driving tractor and combine. Ray also helped his brothers with farming, cattle, and sheep.

Raymond was an avid outdoorsman, and his mentor was his wonderful father, George.  He was taught how to hunt, trap, and farm at a young age.  Raymond's past time was bow and rifle hunting and riding around on his ATV for shed hunting.  He even taught his nieces and nephews many tips on hunting, fishing, bowling and so much more.  They would "just ask Ray" if needing help on learning any activities.  And most of all, his love for bowling was important and it was a family sport.  Ray was an avid bowler and accomplished several perfect 300 games!  Raymond enjoyed reading western novels, playing horseshoes, mowing grass for family and friends, and watching tv with his mother.  His devotion to his beloved mother was genuine and heartfelt. Each morning, Ray would enjoy a cup of coffee with his mom, also placing her daily pills by her coffee cup.  They would drink coffee and watch Price is Right and local news together.  He was very helpful to his mother and asked before he left the house, "Is there anything else you need me to do?"  Ray was a "funcle" to his nieces and nephews as well as his great nieces and nephews.  He would play games with them, tease them, and always made them laugh.  Raymond was a pleasant, quiet, care-free, and simple man.  Family meant everything to Ray, and he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Raymond is survived by his loving mother, Gladys Freund, Cando ND; siblings, Dennis Freund, Cando ND, Janis Sorge, Devils Lake ND, David Freund, Cando ND, Robert Freund, Bonners Ferry ID, Joann (Michael) Rinas, Cando ND, Beverly (Ricky) Robinson, Leeds ND, Brent Freund, Cando ND, Barbara (Bill) Fuller, Esko MN, Gary Freund, Cando ND, Gail Hill, Bismarck ND; his many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Raymond was preceded in death by his father George, his grandparents, many aunts and uncles, and some cousins.
