Rena Clouse, 94, of Kingman, AZ and formerly of Cando, ND passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at Desert Highlands Care Center in Kingman, AZ. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at the Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home in Cando, ND with Reverend Bonnie Weaver officiating. Visitation will be for two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery in Egeland, ND.

Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, CDC recommendations including social distancing, hand cleansing, wearing masks, and staying away if not feeling well are encouraged.

Rena was born August 7, 1925 near Egeland, ND, the daughter of Johann and Bertha (Schoenborn) Schumacher. Rena grew up on a farm in the Egeland area and graduated from the local school at the age of 16 in 1942. After graduation, Rena attended Aakers Business School in Grand Forks, ND. She was offered a position at the Pentagon! With no family or connections on the East Coast, Rena moved to Portland where she had extended family.

Putting her skills with numbers and education to good use, Rena had a lengthy career as a bookkeeper and worked the majority of her years in Portland for an RCA distributor.

On September 24, 1955, Rena married John "Buck" W. Clouse, Jr. She became a step-mother to John "Joe" W. Clouse, III. In 1958 she celebrated the birth of her only child, Beverly.

In 1961, Buck and Rena built a new home and moved the family to SE Portland, but they didn't let a summer pass by without taking a road trip to visit Rena's family.

Sadly, Rena lost her husband on October 10, 1969. Over the following months, she made the decision to move back to North Dakota and raise Beverly near her family. They settled in Cando, where she worked as a bookkeeper for CENEX until her retirement on January 10, 1986.

Rena had many past times. She loved to knit and crochet, creating many beautiful afghans, sweaters, doilies and tablecloths. For many years she had a table at craft fairs selling her crocheted items. She also loved to watch baseball, play cards and bingo, and later in life enjoyed going to the casino. Rena also continued the family tradition of summer road trips and would make extended trips to visit friends and family in Idaho, California and Oregon. Staying connected to the people in her life was a priority and she was always willing to drive out of her way if it meant she could see family and friends.

After retirement, Rena eventually moved to Fargo. In May of 2008, Beverly accepted a new job that would take her to Kingman, Arizona. Knowing she would miss her too much; Rena made the decision to come along for the adventure.

Rena made friends easily and volunteered at the local library for several years. Arizona provided many new adventures and winters without cold and snow.

Rena survived two bouts of breast cancer and COVID-19.

Rena is survived by her daughter. One step daughter-in-law, Lynne Clouse of Portland, OR. Two step-grandchildren Jeffrey Clouse (Anita) of Portland, OR and Kelly Corno of Chandler, AZ.  Seven step-great granddaughters. Three sisters Isabelle Morlock, Ella Timian, Irma Morlock and one brother, Harvey (Mary) Schumacher.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, step-son, one brother Alvin Schumacher, and four sisters, Alvina Martinson, Lenora Helgeson, Edna Andrick and Florene Nielsen.
