Robert D. Timms, 83, of Cando, ND passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2020 at the Towner County Medical Center in Cando. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2020, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home in Cando. The visitation will follow CDC recommended restrictions regarding the Coronavirus. A private Graveside Service will be held at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Cando with Pastor Rick Craig officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Hal Parker Post #79 Cando American Legion and the North Dakota Military Funeral Honors Team.

Robert was born in Cando on March 23, 1937 to Harold and Gladys (Smith) Timms. He attended Metcalf Country School and graduated from Cando High School. Robert was united in marriage to Norma Kyes in 1962 in Cando. Robert was a farmer all throughout his life. He loved tilling the soil and bringing in the harvest. He was awarded the Towner County Soil Conservation Award in 1987. Early in life Robert worked at Houtcooper Implement as a mechanic. He was a member of the ND National Guard and was honorably discharged in 1962. Robert was a devoted member of the Cando United Methodist Church, serving on the board for 25 years. He served on the Churchs Ferry Farmers Co-op Association and BTR Farmers Co-op Elevator Boards for 27 years and was a member of the Cando Jaycees. Robert was appointed Cando Municipal Judge in 1967 and retired in 2017, after 50 years of service. Robert was an active Boy Scout Leader and served on various scouting committees. Robert was the creator and strong supporter of the I.O.O.F. Cando Cemetery Endowment Fund and member of the North Central Planning Council. He also served as charter member and chairman of the Pioneer Foundation Board as well as chairman of the Towner County Fair Board for many years.

Robert is survived by his wife, Norma, of 58 years; sons, Dana (Shari) Timms, Kyle (Kari) Timms, and daughter Heidi (John) Gieser; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and one to be born in July. He is also survived by his brothers, Donald (Verna) Timms, George (Joan) Timms, Gary (Mary) Timms; and sisters, Karen Shadrick and Cindy Timms.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents.
