Obituary

Roger E. "Gus" Cartwright, 80, of Cando, ND passed away Saturday, October 6, 2018 at the Towner County Medical Center in Cando, ND. Memorial Services will be on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the Cando Lutheran Church with Pastor Rick Craig officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Cando, ND. Music will be provided by Catherine Anfinson and Joni Morlock.
The family has requested memorials be given to Cando Lutheran Church, Cando Fire Department or the Towner County Ambulance Service.
Roger Eugene was born August 5, 1938 the older son of Willard and Alice Liepke Cartwright at the Noyes General Hospital in Cando. Following Willard's death in 1947, the family moved from their farm near Perth to Cando. He attended Monroe, Perth and Cando schools.
On May 18, 1963 Gus was united in marriage to Kathryn Lien at the Bisbee Lutheran Church. To this union three sons, Brent, David and Michael, were born.
Gus was hired at Baker Electric Cooperative in 1956 and continued there for 41 years. In 1964 he began assisting Charlie Dix with taking ambulance calls and from there helped organize the Towner County Ambulance Service, served on the ambulance board of directors and attended the first EMT class in Cando. He spent many years on the Cando Fire Department and 12 years on the Cando City Council. He was a member of Cando Lutheran Church, the Cando Masonic Lodge, the Cando Gun Club and a lifetime member of the NRA. Gus also served in the North Dakota National Guard for seven years. He spent many years helping local farmers during harvest.

In addition to spending time with family and friends, Gus enjoyed wood working, fishing, hunting and genealogy. He will be remembered for his kind, playful manner and helpful nature.
Gus is survived by his wife of 55 years, Kathy; sons Brent (Nabila), their sons Emmanuel and Joshua; David, his daughters Sierra, Tabitha and Natasha; Michael (Shareen), children Bronwen and Aiden; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Willard and Alice, step-father John Nicholas, brother Raymond and his sister-in-law Joy.
