Roger L. Narveson, 76, of Cando, ND passed away Sunday, December 19 ^th , 2021 at Towner County Living Center in Cando, North Dakota, surrounded by his loving family.  A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 11 ^th at 11:00 a.m. at the Cando Lutheran Church with Pastor Bonnie Weaver officiating.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the church. Burial will be held at the Flora Cemetery.

Roger LeRoy Narveson was born in Devils Lake, ND on June 20 ^th , 1945 to Gloria Kindem and Alvern (Dugan) Narveson.  He attended grade school in Oberon, graduating from Oberon High School as valedictorian of his class in 1963.  He furthered his education and attended NDSU, graduating in 1968 with his degree in pharmacy.  Roger started working for Speed Neumann at Neumann Rexall Drug in Cando, where he continued working until his retirement in 2009.

Roger was united in marriage to Sharon Odden on June 13 ^th , 1970 at the Flora Lutheran Church.  They made their home in Cando, where they raised their three children, Jason, Lisa, and Kristi, plus several cats.

Roger grew up on his grandparents' (Kindem) farm south of Oberon, where he developed a love for farming and animals.  He spent summers during college helping on the farm.  He took time off from work every November to go deer hunting with family and friends, a tradition that continued for many years, and is aptly described by the song "The Second Week of Deer Camp," by Da Yoopers.

Roger was a music lover; he especially enjoyed Hank Williams, Jr. (Bocephus) and Dwight Yoakam, both of whom he saw in concert.  In 1971, Roger was fortunate enough to see his favorite musician, Elvis Presley, in concert in Minneapolis.  His love of music was instilled in his children, often quizzing them on names of songs and artists that came on the radio.  He also enjoyed Clint Eastwood movies, The Andy Griffith Show, Gunsmoke, and the Griswold movies, with Christmas Vacation being traditionally watched every December.

History was his favorite subject in school, and he especially enjoyed reading about the American west, the Civil War, and World War II.  He loaded everyone up in the family truckster for several vacations out west to Montana, and was also able to visit Fort Sumter in South Carolina.

Always an avid Bison fan, Roger never missed a game.  He also enjoyed attending Cando Cubs/Northstar football and basketball games.  He was also a UND hockey fan (but only hockey!).

Ultimately, the most important thing to Roger was his family.  When leaving home after a visit, he would always tell them to drive safely as they were carrying precious cargo, to always take care of each other, to pet the kitties, and that he only wanted them to be happy.

Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife of 51 years, Sharon; son: Jason (Sara) Narveson; daughters: Lisa Narveson, Kristi (Jacob) Uhden; very special grandson: James Roger Narveson (born January 1 ^st , 2022); Sharon's brothers and sisters: Palmer (Polly) Odden, Jr., Donald "Don" (Dawn) Odden, Roger Odden, Jerry Odden, Kenneth Odden, Bradley Odden, Patty (Les) Cray, Renee Gilderhus, Curtis (Karla Christopherson) Odden, Rick (Carrie) Odden, Danny (Cindy) Odden, Debra (John) Thrasher, Holly (Tom Tevik) Lysne, and Paul Odden; brother-in-law: Paul Hungness; many nieces and nephews; 5 grandkitties and 1 grandpuppy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister: Darlene (Narveson) Hungeness, Mother and father-in-law; Palmer and Fern Odden and brothers-in-laws; Elmer Odden and David Odden.
