Sharon A. Axvig, 68, of Cando, ND, passed into eternal peace on Saturday, February 3, 2018. Sharon had endured a long illness that ended at Towner County Medical Center, surrounded by her loved ones. Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Cando Lutheran Church with Pastor Bonnie Weaver officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, February 9, 2018 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm with a 7:00 pm prayer service at the Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home and for one hour prior to the church service on Saturday. Music will be provided by Dick Lybeck. Casket bearers will be Wayne Lingen, Don Wick, Jerry Wilhelmi, Dan Unruh, Larry Zavada and Roy Trogstad. Burial will be at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Cando, ND in the spring.

Sharon was born on May 21, 1949 in Beulah, N.D. to Otto and Ella (Schmidt) Voegele. She graduated from Beulah High School in 1967 and went on to college at Minot State where she graduated with a degree in Speech Pathology in 1971. Sharon moved to Cando, where she began her career in education. She married Adrian Newman and had two children, Melanie and Brandon. She later continued her education to get a certificate in Preschool Special Education. Sharon married Dale Axvig in 2003. After retirement, Sharon and Dale spent their winters in Arizona where they enjoyed golfing, taking classes, and spending time with friends.
Sharon's life touched many. She was devoted to her children, Melanie and Brandon. Her grandchildren, Paia and Charlie, were the light of her life. She spent her life working with students, who she not only taught, but grew to love. Her compassion and dedication impacted the lives of hundreds of students in Cando, Bisbee, Rock Lake, and Egeland. Sharon was an active member of the Cando Lutheran Church, having a faith that gave her strength through difficult times. She and Dale had a wonderful life together filled with love and many happy times with friends and family.
Sharon is preceded in death by her parents, Ella and Otto Voegele. She is survived by one brother, Kenny Voegele; her husband, Dale; children Melanie Newman-Morrow and her husband Eric, their children Paia (6) and Charlie (2) and Brandon Newman; step-children Kristin (Axvig) Heinz and her husband Dieter Heinz, their children Madeline (16), Grace (14), and Calvin (11), Amy (Axvig) Dax and her children Oliver (8) and Lucas (6), and Chad Axvig.
