Shirley Mae (Nord) Rodenbiker of Cando, ND died on September 2, 2012.  She was born on February 3, 1925 to Calmer and Martha Nord.  She graduated valedictorian from Hansboro High School working through high school as a hair stylist and playing piano and trumpet in a dance band.  Shirley married John E. "Jack" Rodenbiker on June 14, 1942.  They farmed together near Rock Lake until 1989 when Jack died.  Shirley has since lived in Cando.

Shirley was very active in the Lutheran Church as Sunday School teacher, member of the choir and LWML acting as a delegate to the International Convention in Houston, TX.  She joined Cando Lutheran Church after moving to Cando in 1989.  Shirley was an active member of many organizations:  PTA, Homemakers, Senior Citizens (Board Member on Senior Meals and Services), Hospital Auxiliary (Treasurer), Sons of Norway (enjoyed the Norsk Hostfest for 26 years), Red Hat Society (Queen Mother), Bunco Club, and the Community Concert Series.  Shirley also belonged to several Travel Clubs and enjoyed trips through all 50 states, Canada, Mexico, the Carribean and eight foreign countries.  She loved good entertainment, loved playing cards – especially pinochle, and was an avid reader.

Shirley was multi-talented and had several hobbies.  She knit, crocheted, quilted, was a talented cook and seamstress, did ceramics, china painting and oil painting, and did hardanger and rosemaling.  Shirley and Jack loved to dance, play cards, were on bowling leagues, and were active members of the Farmers Union.  She loved learning and encouraged her children and grandchildren in their pursuits.

Shirley is survived by four children: Marcia Banderet of Milford MA, Dianne Garber of Cedar Rapids IA, Ronald (JoAnn) Rodenbiker of Rock Lake ND, and Darcy (Jean) Bilke-Rodenbiker of Bloomington MN; 10 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; two sisters: LaVonne Copley of Harber City CA and Norma Peterson of Beaverton OR; and several nieces and nephews.

Shirley was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband Jack, son John, great-grandson Joshua, and sister Barbara.

The family asks that memorials be given in memory of Shirley to the All Nations Lutheran Cemetery Fund in Rock Lake.



SERVICES Tuesday, September 4, 2012, at 1:00 pm at the Cando Lutheran Church of Cando, ND.

Visitation will take place beginning at 11pm until the time of the services at the church on Tuesday.

BURIAL Tuesday, September 4, 2012, at 3pm, at the All Nations Cemetery, Rock Lake, ND.
