Obituary

Silvia S. Haus, 94, of Cando, ND, passed away Saturday, March 22, 2014, with her daughter by her side, at the Towner County Living Center in Cando.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 27, 2014 at Cando Lutheran Church in Cando, ND with Rev. Bonnie Weaver officiating. Visitation will be for two hours prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Music will be from Lori Kurtti. Casket bearers will be Myron Baerwald, Mark Baerwald, Eugene Haus, Gil Haus and Garry Goergen. Interment will be alongside her husband and daughter at Zion Lutheran Cemetery North of Munich, ND in the spring.

Silvia was born May 11, 1919 to Ludwig and Olga (Depner) Baerwald. The 2nd of 6 children, she was raised on a farm near Egeland and graduated from Egeland High School. Before she married, she worked at the Egeland Drug Store. On October 13, 1938 she married Math Haus. Together they farmed in the Egeland and Calio areas until 1977. In those days the "farm wife" worked very hard alongside her husband. There was always a huge garden that needed tending, animals that needed to be fed, and large meals that were made to keep everyone going. Silvia was famous for her donuts, lefsa, buns, potato salad, just to name a few. She never lived in a fancy house, but that house was always clean. When she had spare time, she loved to go fishing! She had stories to tell after each trip. We never knew how much was true and how much was exaggerated. Silvia seldom missed many bible studies or church services, as her faith was very important to her. Math and Silvia moved to Cando after retiring from the farm, where they made many cherished friends. In October of 2007 they moved to Towner County Living Center where they made more friends and received excellent care. Math passed away on February 20, 2010 after 71 plus years of marriage.

Surviving her are daughter Marie (Clint) Goergen, 6 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, brother Hugo Baerwald, sister Ella Campbell and son-in-law Quentin Ames.

Beside her husband, Silvia was preceded in death by her beloved daughter JoAnn (Quentin) Ames, brothers Gert and Wally and sister Anita Cantrell.

Condolences:

Our thoughts and prayers are with you Marie. No matter how old our parents are when they pass away, it is still so hard. Vanessa (Baerwald) Boe
