Thomas Stenard Helland, 64, died at home from complications of COPD in Spokane, WA, on February 5, 2017 with his wife Ginnie B by his side. A Celebration of Life of sharing memories will be held on June 10,2017 at 1:30 p.m. at the Egeland Community Center. Internment of cremains will follow in the Egeland Union Cemetery.

Thomas was born to Stenard and Vivian (Odegaard) Helland in Cando, ND on October 22, 1952, Tom grew up on the family farm near Egeland, ND and graduated from the Egeland Public School in 1970. He attended North Dakota State University, Fargo, ND and Lake Region College, Devils Lake, ND. He followed his calling in the construction and carpentry trades. Tom was an avid outdoors man that loved fishing and camping.

Tom met Ginnie B in 1994 in Spokane. On May 21, 1999, they were joined in marriage and continued to live there until his death.

Survivors are wife Ginnie B Helland, Spokane, WA; son Christopher Helland and special friend Kristy Kongslie, Grand Forks, ND; Luke Lowell, step-grandson; mother Vivian Helland, Rapid City, SD; sisters Yvonne (Charles) Erickson, Battle Lake, MN; Linda (David) Henry, Rapid City, SD; Wanda Moos, Rapid City, SD; Susan Schindler, North Bend, OR; nieces and nephews and extended family members including Aunt Joyce Odegaard, Cando, ND.

Tom was preceded in death by his father Stenard Helland, step-son Ron Brooker, and brother-in-law Douglas Schindler.
