Vera LaRue Lee, 85, of Cando, ND, passed away on Monday, December 12, 2022 at the Towner County Living Center in Cando, ND. Services will take place at the Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home in Cando with Fr. Daniel Musgrave, celebrant, on Friday, January 6, 2023 at 10:00 am. Visitation will be from 5 pm to 7 pm on Thursday, January 5, 2023 at the Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home and for one hour prior to the service on Friday.  Burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan, ND following the service at 3:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Cando Area Food Pantry, P.O. Box 576, Cando, ND 58324.

Vera was born on May12,1937 to Albert and Wilma (Wurgler) Loken in Rugby, ND.  At age 14 Vera moved from the farm to Cando, lived with a family, took care of their children and cleaned other's houses so she could continue in school. She graduated from Cando High School. She worked for ABL Lanes, The Dairyland, was a bookkeeper for Cando Lumber and an aide for Cando Hospital.

Vera married Edward Lee on November 11, 1954. They had three children: Terry, Nancy and Kristi.

Vera was an avid puzzler, there was always a puzzle book of some variation alongside her Bible on the chair-side table. Vera was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, she was an Eucharistic Minister, Altar Society Member along with other social concerns activities. Vera was also active in many Lee, Loken and high school class reunions, organizing, hosting and cooking for many. Vera also carried on the family tradition of making lefse, those that were lucky enough to get some were glad she did.

Vera is survived by son Terry (Corinne) Bismarck ND; daughters Nancy of International Falls, MN and Kristi (Rick) Weyrauch of Fargo, ND; grandchildren Elizabeth Wilke, Erik Weyrauch, Makenzie (Danae) Schafer, Myles Schafer; great grandchildren McKenna and Madilyn Wilke, Ada and Scout Schafer; siblings Janice Riggin, Myron Loken, Ardell Loken, Arland (Hank) Loken, Arlene (Tina) Loken, Rita Sorenson and many nieces and nephews. Vera was preceded in death by her husband, brother Errol, in-laws Leona Nyberg, Judy Eberle, Carol Dolan, Robert Lee, Maurice Lee, Don Schiel, Gennie Loken, Suzanne Loken, and Melvin and Dorothy Lee.

Grandchildren and great-grand-children will be pallbearers.
