Victor M. Straabe, 97, of Devils Lake, ND formerly of Cando, ND passed away on Tuesday, August 15th, 2017 at Eventide Heartland Care Center in Devils Lake. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 21, 2017 at Cando Lutheran Church with Pastor Bonnie Weaver officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Burial will be at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Cando, ND. Casket bearers will be Jay Hartl, Everett Ritterman, Cal Ritterman, Michael Tofsrud, Christopher Tofsrud, Colton Hartl, Levi Volk, Terry Straabe, Miles Straabe, Kyle Straabe and Ryan Straabe. Honorary bearers will be Wayne Newman and all of Victors family and friends. Music will be provided by Dick and Lynette Lybeck.
Victor was born February 8, 1920 in Leeds, ND to Hans and Hilda (Bod) Strabbe. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at North Prairie Church, rural Leeds. He attended country school through the eighth grade. He farmed and ranched most of his life in the Leeds area. He moved to Cando and worked for the City at the water plant and also did general maintenance projects throughout the city. Victor Married Ella Robertson and gained two daughters, four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, with another great-great-grandchild arriving in September. Victor loved the little ones and cherished their visits.
Victor enjoyed watching the weather channel and game shows on TV, going for drives in the country with his friend, Wayne, and going to Hardees for a roast beef sandwich.
Victor is survived by step-children Judy (Coby) Barstad of Sheyenne, ND and Cheryl (Rick) Schaffer of Maple Lake, MN; sister Helen (Sherwin) Carlson of Leeds, ND; grandchildren DeShawn Tofsrud of Brinsmade, ND, Jay (Kristi) Hartl of Devils Lake, ND, Everett (Chantell) Ritterman of Devils Lake, ND, Calvin (Abbey) Ritterman of Albertsville, MN; great-grandchildren Michael (Alyssa) Tofsrud of Minnewaukan, ND, Chris (Mariah) Tofsrud of Devils Lake, ND, McKenna Tofsrud of Brinsmade, ND, Kade and Lakyn Ritterman of Devils Lake, ND, Levi Volk of Devils lake, ND; McKenzie (Josiah) Negron of Grand Forks, ND and Colton Hartl of Devils Lake, ND; great-great-grandchildren Avlyn and Easton Tofsrud of Minnewaukan, ND and nieces and nephews Judy (Robert) Tompkins, JoAnn (Roger) Copeland, Terry Straabe, Diane Straabe, Reid (Millie) Straabe, Hal (Elena) Straabe, Vicki (Wayne) Lingen, Barry (Debbie) Straabe, Miles Straabe, Candy (Daniel) Stave, Kyle (Sandy) Straabe, Dawn Christensen, Ryan Straabe and Jodi Straabe. Victor was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother Thorvald, nephews David and Craig Straabe, sister-in-law Maxine Straabe and grandson-in-law Allan Tofsrud.
