Obituary

Walden A. Schmidt, 71, of Bisbee, ND, passed away April 7, 2014, at the Towner County Medical Center of Cando, ND.

Walden was born February 2, 1943, to Waldemar and Sylvia (Oetter) Schmidt, in Sioux City, Iowa. He attended school at Oak Grove in Fargo and then in Bisbee, ND, where he graduated in 1961. Walden went on to attend North Dakota State University and spent three years in Colorado. He returned to Bisbee and began his career in farming in 1968.

Walden was united in marriage to Sheila Starr Johnson on August 16, 1970. Walden became an instant family man with four children: Christi, Jerry, Cindy, and Cheri. Walden and Sheila welcomed a daughter, Cheryl.

Walden was active in the community. He was a Hunter Safety Instructor for 25 years, served as a Boy Scout Master for Troop 180 and earned the Silver Beaver Award in 1987. NDSU honored Walden with the "Outstanding Agriculturist Award" for Rolette County. He was active in the Bisbee Curling Club and Trinity Lutheran Church of Perth, ND. Walden retired from farming in 2013.

Walden is survived by his wife Sheila of Bisbee; children: Christi Johnson (Carole Halone) of Fargo, ND, Jerry (Lisa) Johnson of Fargo, ND, Cindy Rodenhizer (Tim Patton) of Vero Beach, FL, Cheri (Mark) Larson of Bismarck, ND, and Cheryl (Joe) Pawlak of Eustis, FL; grandchildren: Brittany Larson, Aaron (Callie) Larson, Keli Johnson, Morgan and Nathan Pawlak; his mother Sylvia Schmidt of Fargo, ND; siblings: Dana (Kris) Schmidt, Randy Schmidt, Telsa (Vern) Lindquist; and nephew: Brian (Jenny) Schmidt and their sons, Kieran and Adrian.

Walden was preceded in death by his father, Waldemar.

Visitation will be from 6:00 - 7:00 pm with a prayer service starting at 7:00, on Friday, April 11, 2014, at the Dunnigan Dix Funeral Home of Cando, ND.

Services will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 4:00pm at Bisbee Lutheran Church of Bisbee, ND.

Interment will be held at the Perth Cemetery at a later date.

Family requests memorials to the donor's choice.
