Wayne Robert "Bucky" Schaefer, 92, of Cando, N.D., passed away Friday, June 29, 2018, at the Towner County Medical Center in Cando, ND.  Memorial Services will be on Friday, July 6th at 2:00 PM at the Cando Lutheran Church with Reverend Bonnie Weaver officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Music will be provided by Joni Morlock and Catherine Anfinson.   Burial will be at the Union Cemetery in Egeland, ND at a later date.

Buck was born August 22, 1925, in Rolla, ND to Richard and Josephine Schaefer, and was raised on a farm near Perth. In 1940, at the age of 15, he moved to a farm near Egeland, ND with his family. He was united in marriage to Louella Grace Odegaard on January 26 ^th , 1945. Together they farmed in the Egeland area for many years. Buck and Louella had two children, Ginger and Nick. Buck retired from farming in 1979 when they moved to Cando. Buck also worked for Jorde Brothers Potato's for approximately 20 years. In his retirement he enjoyed coffee with the guys at Dee's and Cenex, and keeping track of the local farming

One of the things Buck missed the most about the farm was his beloved horses, a passion he shared with his children in their younger years with Nick participating in horse shows through his high school years which Buck loved to watch. Another of Buck's favorite pastimes was to watch his "6-pack" of great-grandsons play together, and most recently enjoyed snuggles with his new great-granddaughter Stella Grace.

Buck is survived by his daughter, Ginger (Al) Iverson of Moorhead, MN, and son Nick (Cindy) Schaefer of Cando, ND; Five grandchildren: Steve (Brenda) Iverson of Moorhead, MN, Shelly (Matt) Glaesman of St. Cloud, MN, Scott Iverson of Moorhead, MN, Nicolette (Matt) Vrchota of Casselton, ND, and Whitney (Darin Nelsen) Schaefer of Cando, ND; seven great-grandchildren: Alex and Blake Iverson, Ben and Ryan Glaesman, Carter and Jack Vrchota, and Stella Nelsen; Siblings, Richard "Dude" (Kathy) Schaefer and Joyce Odegaard of Cando, ND, Doveleen (Larry) Stahn of Emo, Ontario, and several nieces and nephews.

Buck was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Josephine Schaefer, and his wife, Louella.
