Obituary

Wesley "Wes" Evan Gibbens, 35, of Cando, ND passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2019 at his home. A private family service will be held this spring.
Wesley Evan, the youngest child of Douglas Gibbens and Debbie Dyste, was born on July 16, 1984, in Grand Forks, ND. He attended school at Cando Public School in Cando, ND, and was active in hockey, basketball, and football during his junior high school years.
Over the years Wesley had many jobs, which gave him the opportunity to travel. He often spoke about his adventures spanning from Oklahoma to Oregon, working on grain bins. Wesley was a hard worker who enjoyed working with his hands. He was always the first to offer help to others, and his work was always first rate. His last job took him to the oil fields in Williston, ND, where he worked as a roustabout.
In November, 2014, Wes suffered a massive stroke which changed his life. Although he overcame many obstacles in life, his struggles with depression and substance use weighed heavy on him through the remainder of his days. But even through the hard times, Wes could always be counted on for support. He checked in on his family and friends daily, and did his best to brighten everyone's spirits.
Wes was a gentle, good hearted, kind soul who will be dearly missed by all who loved him.
Wesley was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Willard and Pearl Gibbens, maternal grandparents, Carl and Beverly Dyste, uncle Robert Gibbens and aunt Faye Gibbens.
He leaves behind a precious daughter, Kaydence Lynn (Williston, ND), parents Douglas (Teresa) Gibbens (Cando, ND) and Debbie (Wayne) Dyste-Strand (Minot, ND), sister Heather Gibbens, brother Ryan Gibbens, aunt Adele Wood, uncle Ron Gibbens, cousins Troy, Jeremy and Mike Gibbens and nephews Anthony and Hunter. He will also be missed by his constant companion, cat Carlos.
In lieu of cards or flowers, please consider donating to Heartview Foundation, 7448 68th Ave. NE, Cando, ND 58324 in Wesley's name.
