William G. "Bill" Howard, 89, Cando, ND, passed away Thursday, October 18, 2012 at the Towner County Medical Center in Cando, ND. Services will be held on Monday, October 22, 2012 at 1 p.m. at Cando Lutheran Church with Rev. Bonnie Weaver officiating. Visitation will be held at the Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home on Sunday, October 21, 2012 from 5 to 7 pm with a family service at 7:00 pm. Visitation on Monday will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Military Honors will be provided by the Hal Parker Post #79 Cando American Legion & North Dakota Military Funeral Honors Team. Interment will be at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Cando, ND.

William G. "Bill" Howard, son of Lee and Madge (Huff) Howard, was born October 31, 1922 in Atlee, Alberta, Canada. He moved to Cando with his family when he was a young boy and graduated from Cando High School. He worked at Torson's Grocery Store and served in the US Army during World War II. He returned to Cando after the war and operated Howard's Service Station for a year. He was united in marriage to Ellen L. Berg on October 21, 1946 in Cando, ND. The couple moved out to the farm in the fall of 1947 where they lived until 1984 when they moved back to Cando. Bill continued to help out when needed on the farm. He was a member of the Cando Lutheran Church and was on the Cando Men's Bowling League. Bill enjoyed coaching and playing baseball, playing hockey, bowling, woodworking, fishing and especially spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Bill is survived by his daughter: Vicki (Jeff) Enger of Marion, ND; his son: Jim (Val) Howard of Cando, ND; grandchildren: Justin (Lacey) Enger of Marion, ND, Natalie (John) Kipka of Eagan, MN, Loren (Ashley) Howard of Grand Forks, ND, Kristen (Tony) Bruse of Litchville, ND; great-grandchildren: Charlie, Gracie & Elijah Enger, Morgan, Ellen & Lucas Kipka, Emma Howard & Kenley Bruse; brother: Clair (Shirley) Howard of Cando, ND; sisters-in-law: Avis Keller of Bisbee, ND, Susan Osland of Breckenridge, MN and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ellen Howard and sister Ruth McVay.
